Juan Manuel Marquez’s loving and supportive wife Erika Marquez must be very proud of him as the boxer dismantled Mike Alvarado in an impressive victory on Saturday night (May 17, 2014). The four-division world champion from Mexico routed his contender in their welterweight battle in front of 12,090 roaring fans at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The judges had it 119-109, 117-109, 117-109 for Juan Manuel Marquez, who dropped Mike Alvarado in the eighth round.
"I wanted to give the public here a gift," the 40-year-old welterweight said at The Forum. "A gift that dignifies the history of this event and the history of the Forum. I wanted to make this fight a gift for the fans." The win over Mike Alvarado sets up Juan Manuel Marquez for a fifth fight with Manny Pacquiao in the fall in Macau, if he wants it. It was suggested the father of three might make eight figures to face Pacquiao, but he was noncommittal about whether he'd take the fight.
"We'll relax first," he said. "I don't know at the moment, but any decision we make will be good for me, good for my family and good for the Mexican fans."
